Kernel Rating (out of 5):
MPAA Rating: PG Length: 95 minutes
Age Appropriate for: 6+. It’s a story about aliens stuck on Earth, and some of the creatures may be a little scary—extra eyes, arms, that kind of thing. There’s also some fighting, as well as kissing and crude jokes (your typical bathroom humor).
The uselessness of ‘Escape from Planet Earth’ is grounded in its utter lack of originality. It’s just another unbelievably average animated film, trying to make extra bucks by being released in 3-D.

So “Escape from Planet Earth” wasn’t screened for critics before its release. Which is probably a good thing, because most of us have seen this movie before—but it was called “Planet 51,” “Mars Needs Moms,” “Megamind,” or “Toy Story.” A heartwarming tale about aliens who are just like us, experiencing similar emotional problems while goofy hijinks ensue … why yes, we have heard this story.
