Kernel Rating (out of 5):
MPAA Rating: PG Length: 91 minutes
Age Appropriate for: 5+. It’s about a hotel for monsters, but they aren’t portrayed as scary or threatening; instead, it’s the humans who are more often doing bad things. Otherwise, there is cartoon violence, the discussed death of a character, eaten animals, some kissing, and lots and lots of scatological humor. Parents might not enjoy this one; it’s targeted mostly to young children.
‘Hotel Transylvania’ is, you know, fine. The premise is ridiculously exciting and the payoff not so much, with too many fart jokes weighing down an expected story about the importance of letting your children be free. It’s about what you would expect from Adam Sandler voicing Dracula, honestly.

Imagine if there really was a hotel for monsters. It would be the coolest place ever! A well done movie with that premise could spawn countless sequels! Money in the studio’s pocket and out of yours! But lucky for us, “Hotel Transylvania” is not very good, and sequels probably won’t happen, and maybe the world is finally ready for Adam Sandler to disappear. Maybe.
