Kernel Rating (out of 5):
MPAA Rating: PG-13 Length: 106 minutes
Age Appropriate for: 12+. Rated PG-13 mainly for the cursing, which is a lot of s-words; also typical action violence, like exploding and liquefied aliens, and others killed by spikes through their heads. Some suggested sexual content, including a joke about Viagra and the scantily leather-dressed girlfriend of a prison inmate; they kiss, but nothing more, and there’s no nudity.
It’s been a decade since ‘Men in Black 2,’ and Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones black-suit up again for ‘Men in Black 3.’ But after so long, the thrill—and the surprise—is pretty much gone.

There’s this part in “Men in Black 3” when Agents J and K visit a Chinese food restaurant and realize that the alien owner is serving his human customers alien meat. Slabs of bizarre aliens, intact with gushy, gloppy faces, fry on countertops and cook in crockpots, much to the agents’—and our—disgust. And then Agent J reaches into a giant alien fish’s body and tears out its heart. It’s a gross-out moment that feels cheaper than anything previously in the “Men in Black” universe, and “MIB3” continues that tone throughout the film. It’s all a little more disgusting, and less satisfying, than you’d expect.
