Family Movie Review: Mirror Mirror (PG)

MirrorMirror ChesapeakeFamilyMovieReviewKernel Rating (out of 5): whole-popcorn-kernalwhole-popcorn-kernalwhole-popcorn-kernal

MPAA Rating: PG       Length: 106 minutes

Age Appropriate for: 10+. Mild fantasy violence involving a “beast” that is half-wolf, half-dragon; suggested sexual humor, involving a spanking and a “taken advantage of” joke; and some other rude language, but nothing perverse or obscene.

‘Mirror Mirror’ is the first movie of two this year about Snow White, and it’s a premium kitsch-fest. The script makes sarcastic, hilarious fun of the fairytale, but the movie still remains a somewhat expected retelling of the story we already know.

It’s feminism, people—and director Tarsem Singh’s adaptation of the Brothers Grimm Snow White fairytale, “Mirror Mirror,” works to make its female lead worth our while. If only Lily Collins had any charisma.
