Kernel Rating (out of 5):
Length: 127 minutes MPAA Rating: PG-13
Age Appropriate for: 10+. The movie includes some violent boxing scenes, but they’re all robots, so you won’t get too emotionally invested. Also a few scenes of intense human violence, like a mugging, and some cursing.
‘Real Steel,’ a movie about boxing robots, is real terrible. Surprising, right? Children won’t mind, but still. Terrible.

For months, I have giggled at the commercials and previews for “Real Steel,” a movie about boxing robots. “Just like Rock’Em Sock’Em toys!” I smirked to myself. And then I saw the movie — and the smirks stopped, and the frowns and grimaces began.
