Family Movie Review: Rock of Ages (PG-13)

MPAA Rating: PG-13       Length: 123 minutes

Age Appropriate for: 14+. Rated PG-13 predominantly for all the sexual stuff, including making out, implied sex scenes, strippers performing onstage, lots of women in their underwear or skimpy outfits, a homosexual kiss, a man singing a song to a woman’s butt, a man touching women’s breasts on top of their shirts, and sexually suggestive choreography. It sounds raunchy, but it’s not so much worse than what’d you see on MTV—and there’s no nudity besides a man’s butt in a thong. Also drinking and cursing.

‘Rock of Ages’ is not meant to be taken seriously, is not very classy, and won’t be the best film you see this summer. But it certainly may be the most fun.

By Roxana Hadadi

“Rock of Ages” pretends to be a raunchy, boozy sex-fest, running on hairspray and paying ode to ’80s hair metal, but it’s softer than all that. At the center of its hard-partying identity is a living, beating heart, one that’s all froth and treacle and fun.
