Family Movie Review: Runner Runner (R)

RunnerRunner ChesapeakeFamilyMovieReviewKernel Rating (out of 5): whole-popcorn-kernal

MPAA Rating: R       Length: 91 minutes

Age Appropriate For: 15+. This movie really didn’t need to be rated R if a few f-words and extraneous sex scenes had been cut out. As it stands, there’s a good amount of cursing; references to drinking and doing drugs; some violence, including a beating; and lots of sexual content. There is implied sexual activity, a few sex scenes, some kissing, and some butts. It all adds nothing to the story and is pretty unnecessary.

You’re in for no surprises with ‘Runner Runner,’ a by-the-numbers thriller starring Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck. They’ll never quite convince you of their characters, and the movie is a boring, expected thing.

What does “Runner Runner” mean? The movie, starring Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck, couldn’t tell you. It’s a poker term, and the movie is about poker, but it never explains its own vocabulary. And when a movie can’t even care enough about details to explain its own name, well, it’s not going to care about much else, either.
