Kernel Rating (out of 5):
MPAA Rating: R Length: 115 minutes
Age Appropriate for: 15+. There’s minimal swearing and a hint of Abercrombie-&-Fitch sensuality at the outset. The film’s copious gunplay is quick, loud, and messy, with solid, professional headshots the primary means of termination. There are some harrowing car chases, and several extended fights a la the Bourne films—in close quarters, snapping the opponent’s neck signals game over. There is also a scene of distressingly casual torture.
Part Training Day, part Bourne Identity and all Denzel, Safe House takes you for a wild if familiar spin.

In the movies, when Denzel Washington smiles, you know you’re in trouble.
