Family Movie Review: The Last Exorcism Part II (PG-13)

TheLastExorcismPartII ChesapeakeFamilyMovieReviewKernel Rating (out of 5): half-popcorn-kernal

MPAA Rating: PG-13        Length: 88 minutes

Age Appropriate for: 13+. “The Last Exorcism Part II” has everything you would expect from this kind of demonic possession horror schlock, so there are some beatings, mutilations, incredibly gross body contortions, and demons lurking around, making weird noises and doing weird things. These movies aren’t as bloody as they are nightmarish, so viewers who know they’re the kind to remember these images should stay away. Also some kissing, implied sexual activity, and cursing.

What’s the purpose of ‘The Last Exorcism Part II”? I mean, honestly. The movie languishes in nothing for more than an hour, only barraging viewers with actual stuff in its very final act. And even that stuff is frustratingly typical, and nowhere near the cost of admission.

Two things you should know before you even start reading my review of “The Last Exorcism Part II” is that I really, really hate bad movies (it’s basically a professional requirement to feel that way) and I also really, really hate the exorcism subgenre of horror, so I wasn’t going into this sequel of 2010’s “The Last Exorcism” with extremely high hopes. Plus, the movie wasn’t screened for press before its release. So, you know it’s going to be awesome! And, well, it was awesome, but in that original meaning of the word, as in, I was in awe. Of how bad it was.
