Age Appropriate for: 8+. Younger kids simply will not get the film; its main themes are about survival and death. Older children will be better able to follow the plot.
Disney is distributing the Japanese animated film, “The Secret World of Arrietty,” but this is not a story about princesses, fairy godmothers, or talking animals. It’s weirder, and it’s better.

In 1952, English author Mary Norton published her first book about itty-bitty humans who borrow items from their bigger counterparts for survival. Now, in 2012, the plot from Norton’s “The Borrowers” still holds up, adapting well into the film “The Secret World of Arrietty.”
