Family Movie Review: The Woman in Black (PG-13)

TheWomaninBlack ChesapeakeFamilyMovieReviewKernel Rating (out of 5): whole-popcorn-kernal

MPAA Rating: PG-13       Length: 95 minutes

Age appropriate for: 15+. “Boo!” moments aplenty, including many that could leave viewers nervous after lights-out. A character here and there will take a stiff, well-deserved drink. The absence of swearing or sexual content is more than made up for in dead children. As such, parents are strongly cautioned, for their own sake as much their kids’.

If the only aim of a horror film is to make its audience anxious, then The Woman in Black might be called a success. But anxiety comes in many colors, and the film’s dark hues can’t mask its musty premise and shopworn tactics.
