Southern High School student honored in national farming magazine

Brooke-CattertonBrooke Catterton, vice president of Southern High School's chapter of Future Farmers of America, has been selected as one of the "Six FFA Shining Stars" by Wrangler Jeans and New Horizons magazine.

Brooke was nominated for the prize by her plant sciences teacher, who says Brooke is "an excellent role model to others." Brooke says she sees the award as bigger than just an individual honor.

"To be recognized by New Horizons is quite an honor for me, but the true recognition belongs to our growing FFA organization and Agricultural Science Program, which has provided a great opportunity for me and many of my classmates," she said.

Southern High Principal Marc Procaccini agreed.

"Brooke's recognition by New Horizons is a reflection and representation of the hard work and dedication of the students in Southern's FFA organization, as well as our Agricultural Science Program under the leadership of Dr. (Joshua) Rice."

Brooke's efforts are featured in New Horizons' Winter 2012-2013 edition.
