New Naval Academy programs for future plebes

NavalAcadTourWIs the Naval Academy in your child's future? Then consider registering this month for one of two new youth leadership activities at the U.S. Naval Academy Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center for kids ages 9-15.

The Junior Leadership Tour, for ages 9-12, is scheduled Saturday, March 8 at 9 a.m. It includes viewing the film "The Call to Serve" and a customized guided walking tour of the Naval Academy and USNA Museum featuring information on the history of the Naval Academy and midshipman life.

The Junior Leadership Program, for ages 13-15, is scheduled Saturday, March 15 at 9 a.m. and is for kids who may be interested in attending the academy. The program includes viewing "The Call to Serve," talks by Navy and Marine Corps officers, a brief admissions presentation, and a customized walking tour of the academy and museum.

Those who attend the program receive a Naval Academy cap, an academy water bottle with lanyard and an information packet. Scouts who declare their pack number on the registration form receive a patch.

Registration for the March 8th program must be received by Feb. 24; for the March 15 program, registration must be received by March 3. Book online on the Naval Academy's website or e-mail jopp@usna.edu. Cost of the tour is $40 and cost of the program is $50.
