Whinings of a Pregnant Momma — Mommy Daze

One would think that a third pregnancy would be the easiest. My two boys are old enough to be great helpers and very self-sufficient. Unlike my second pregnancy where I was constantly chasing a 1 ½ year old toddler, I’ve been able to put my feet up more and slow down with this pregnancy. So why has it been so much harder?! Let me take a page out of my kids’ book and whine a little.

rsz whinings of a pregnant mamaThe first four months of this pregnancy I had the worst morning sickness I’ve had yet. It was so debilitating. I literally laid on the couch and listened to eight seasons of My Little Pony while my four year-old wasted away hours of his life glued to Netflix. But I didn’t even care, I was so sick. Then once that fog lifted, I realized how huge my stomach was and decided it must be time to break out the maternity clothes. After two other pregnancies, I’ve accumulated plenty of maternity clothes, but to my horror, most of them didn’t fit anymore. Apparently, my stomach wasn’t the only thing that had grown exponentially with this pregnancy. Ugh.

Then came the fatigue. Whoever says that the second trimester means a renewal of energy has obviously never had more than two children. I get winded walking up the stairs. I pull a muscle lifting the laundry basket. I wheeze my way through prenatal yoga classes. I get light-headed and dizzy at least once a day, no matter how much I’ve eaten or drank. My oldest son has become my warden, asking how many bottles of water I’ve had today and reminding me that the baby probably doesn’t like to be upside down when I’m trying to do downward-facing dog. I joined a Fit4Baby workout class and it usually takes two days to recover from it. Ugh.

And don’t get me started on the memory loss, affectionately known as ‘Pregnancy Brain’! I have at least ten different alarms set in my phone every day to remind me of school drop-offs, pickups, meeting times, or “Start Dinner Now or No One Will Eat” alarms. It has been so bad that I arranged to host a surprise party for a friend, went through the entire planning process of getting food, decorations, and inviting friends. Yet just days before I literally scheduled another commitment for that same evening. It’s not like I was invited to a party and forgot, I was the one throwing the party! Ugh.

I’ll be honest, I’m a little nervous how my family is going to survive the third trimester of this pregnancy. If you don’t hear from me for a couple days, send help. The kids are probably eating dog food while playing video games, my husband is probably waiting for me to pick him up from somewhere, and I’m more than likely locked out of my car with a pulled hamstring wondering why my phone alarm keeps going off.
