Festive shopping in Maryland beyond the malls

Lisa Schlossnagle of Maple Lawn shuns malls and big box stores around the holidays.
“They are too much. There is something about having too many people and too many choices … so I tend to avoid it,” she says. “How can there be so many things and nothing seems right?”
Instead, she shops at smaller, local stores where she finds buying a gift “deepens the connection you have with the person you’re giving the gift to or receiving the gift from.”
During the holidays, Schlossnagle and her husband make a date night out of it, grabbing dinner in Historic Ellicott City and then shopping for members of their extended family, including their young daughters.
