First Sunday Arts Festival Aug. 2 boasts big music lineup

The First Sunday Arts Festival in downtown Annapolis Aug. 2 includes the biggest musical lineup so far this summer. At least six bands will play during the free event, which runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Entertainment for kids includes a band at noon at Whitmore Park, balloon animals, face painting and story times through the day, hosted by JNP Project.

Sample root beer from Thunder Beast and wine from Great Frogs Winery in Annapolis at Whitmore Park, where food trucks will also be set up.

Artists and vendors sell their wares along West and Calvert streets during First Sunday Arts Festival dates.

Noon – Jello Boys, playing hits from the Grateful Dead
3 p.m. –
The Pipe Dreamers, which played at Carr’s Beach

Weisman Park next to the Visitor’s Center

Noon – The Late Bloomer Band, playing a unique combination of funk, jazz and other genres
3 p.m. – Grey Dog Band, rock music

Whitmore Park

Noon – Music for kids
3 p.m. – Chesapeake Steel Band, playing a mixture of classic and progressive steel drum music

City Gate

TBD – Joanne Juskus and Adrian Bond of Pillowbrook

Head inside after the festival ends at 5 p.m. for additional arts and entertainment, including:

  • Gospel Sushi at Tsunami;
  • Folk music and an art reception at 49 West Coffeehouse;
  • Live music on the back patio at Rams Head Tavern; and
  • Outdoor movie at dark on the back patio of Reynolds Tavern.

Parking options include the Whitmore Garage and Gott’s Court Garage next to the festival on Calvert Street. Free parking is two blocks from the festival at the State Parking Garage on the corner of Calvert and Bladen streets.
