Two public service projects with educational benefits for families and a focus on environmental health and climate resilience are in the works for Anne Arundel County.

These projects are the development of the Edgewater Recreation and Community Center and the restoration of the Jonas and Anne Catharine Green Park in Annapolis. The recreation center would be built on the site of a former Giant Food store, and it’s set to host educational and recreational programs for community members.
Environmental education is also a major theme of this project. The park updates would address rising sea levels from the banks of the Severn River with a coastal engineer and consider other changing weather patterns from climate change.
“The Edgewater Recreation and Community Center represents a significant step forward,” says Jessica Leys, director of the Anne Arundel County Department of Recreation and Parks, in a news release. “By transforming a long-vacant space, we are creating a dynamic hub for recreation, learning and community interaction. This project is also a commitment to the future, prioritizing sustainability and resilience to ensure our public spaces endure and flourish for generations.”
The county currently has requests for proposals (RFPs) for both projects in partnership with the Resilience Authority of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County.
