FranklyStein: School pictures take me back in time

Maggie in 8thThis is the time of year when the new school pictures come in.

I have four frames on the mantel in my front hall displaying each of my kid’s current school photo. Behind each picture in the frame are all the photos dating back to just about the beginning of their school careers — in some cases, even earlier.

When it’s time to update the photos, I love looking back at how much they have changed over the years. Some of the photos remind me of specific things about that year, like when Maggie got her haircut above her shoulders and hated it. And the photo the year Adam started pulling out his hair. That one is hard to look at, but he’s still smiling. Amazing. (In this year’s photo he has way too much hair, praise be. It was taken just before he got scalped by the barber.)

This year is particularly poignant because it will be Maggie’s last picture from the Lamb of God School where she has been for nine years. She’s moving on to high school next year. I know there will be more school pictures, but it just isn’t the same somehow.MaggieK

I was going to write this blog about how much she’s changed since kindergarten, but I can’t because she looks so much the same. It’s amazing. There are years in between that she looks different but her kindergarten photo and her eighth grade photo are so similar.

Don’t you think? What a sweet girl she is.
