Free fruit for kids while grocery shopping

banana babySkip the bakery cookies and lunch meats, Giant Food is now letting kids eat fruit free when shopping with their parents.

Giant Food of Landover has launched a Free Fruit for Kids program in all 169 of its stores in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and Washington, D.C. The program offers free fruit to kids ages 10 and younger.

Parents and caregivers have to go no further than the produce department to find a healthy snack option for kids while they are shopping. In-store signs and produce displays will direct customers to the free fruit that is available in each store. Bananas will be offered first, followed by mandarin oranges later in the fall. Customers are encouraged to take one piece of fruit per child ages 10 and under.

“Giant is always pleased to provide opportunities for healthy eating, whether it’s at home or in the store,” says Lisa Coleman, lead nutritionist for Giant Food of Landover. “This program is one more way Giant helps children consume enough fruits and vegetables, further emphasizing our commitment to helping customers of all ages eat well and make healthy choices for themselves and their families.”
