Summer Fun Day #80: Cool off at Yards Park

Take a trip to the nation’s capital for a free splash ground ideal for a hot summer day.

YardsparkYards Park is an outdoor water play area in the Capitol Riverfront area of D.C. with an 11-inch deep canal that flows into a lower level with waterfalls.

The entrance to the park has “Dancing Fountains,” which have water jets for kids to splash in and at night, the fountain is illuminated with color-changing lights.

If the kids get tired of splashing, there is plenty to do in the area, including taking a stroll along the boardwalk, checking out the River Street gardens and eating at nearby restaurants. Be sure to check out the iconic Yards Park Bridge, an architectural landmark that provides scenic views of the Anacostia River.

There are no lifeguards on duty so play at your own risk. Children under 6 must be within arm’s reach of an adult.

The park is open daily from 7 a.m. to sunset and is free to enjoy.
