Summer Fun Day #92: Visit Longwood Gardens during the Summer of Spectacle

Take a day trip to Pennsylvania to see the flowers and fountains of Longwood Gardens.

longwoodgardens3The fountains are a summer highlight, and at the Open Air Theatre, there are five-minute fountain shows where 750 jets come. Shows run on throughout the day.

Summer heat means that the tropical waterlilies are in full bloom, so check out the blossoms in the pools that can grow to a surface area of 6 feet wide.

See the monarch butterflies in the Meadow Garden, and visit the Conservatory to see the indoor blooms on display.

Take the kids to the Children’s Corner, which features the beautiful amaryllis flower and a fountain children for children to splash and play. Additionally, the indoor children’s garden has hands-on water features, handcrafted sculptures, secret stairways and even scavenger hunts to discover more about the garden.

The gardens have different kinds of tours daily that are free with admission, so check online to see what catches your interest.

Longwood Gardens is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday through Wednesday, and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Tickets cost $23 for adults and $12 for ages 5 to 18. Children 4 and under are free.
