Summer Fun—Day 66: Hike to Kilgore Falls

Take an exploration through the woods and discover the beautiful Kilgore Falls.

The Falling Branch Trail, a family-friendly 1.2-mile trail, leads to Maryland’s second-highest vertical drop waterfall.

Kids can get a cool perspective by climbing on the rocks behind the falls, or they can wade in the surrounding pools. Be sure that everyone is wearing shoes because the bottom of the pool is rocky.

You can even bring your dog as long as it is on a leash at all times.

The trail is located in a separate area north of Rocks State Park on Route 24. Turn left at St. Mary’s Road, then right onto Falling Branch Road where you will find the parking area. Note: there are no restrooms in this area.

The parking lot opens daily at 9 a.m., and visitors are encouraged to arrive early as parking is limited and has been filling up this summer. The park closes at sunset.
