Run, Sip, Zip!

Combine Halloween with exercise and a beverage or two on these fun adult outings.

Hayrides, trunk-or-treats and pumpkin patches are all lots of fun, but eventually you’ll be ready to put a new twist on the same old fall festivities. If you are fascinated by zombies or love to solve mysteries, take your fall fun to the next level with these fun outdoor adventures. Just keep an eye out for zombies!

Mud Dog Run—Zombie Edition

Get down and dirty with the undead when they invade Crumland Farm in Frederick. This 5K course will have you climbing over lots of obstacles and running through muddy terrain. (There is also an optional 8K high-intensity course for the “die” hard runners.) The challenge is that there will be zombies chasing you all over the course! If you survive your zombie infested run, you are invited to join the End of the World party to have some great food, drink beer and
enjoy music.
All ages are welcome to attend. However, to be a runner or zombie you must be over the age of 12. If under 18, a signed waiver by a parent or guardian is required. Cost is $55 before October 15, $80 on site. If you’d rather be a zombie, wear your favorite undead outfit. Zombies will be on the course from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. You must arrive by
10 a.m. so makeup artists can zombify you with complimentary makeup. Cost to participate as a zombie is $35. Registration is limited, so don’t wait!

Spook Hill Cider and Wine 4 Mile Run

If you are a fan of the movie “The Blair Witch Project,” this run is for you! Participants will run (or walk) through historic Burkittsville, where the movie was filmed. Then runners continue up the slight incline of Spook Hill into the Boordy Winery Vineyard, through historic Union Cemetery, Guyton’s Farm, and the Distillery Lane Ciderworks orchard. 

The Distillery Lane Ciderworks orchard and tasting room is located across the street from the race headquarters and will be open immediately after the awards ceremony and door prize drawings have concluded. Boordy Vineyards will also be offering tastings in Burkittsville on race morning, allowing runners age 21 and over to taste wines made from grapes harvested on the Spook Hill course. Pre-registration is encouraged. If you register by October 14, cost is $36.95. On Race Day, if slots are still available, the cost is $40.

Terrapin Adventures Murder Mystery

Do you like to solve mysteries? Is Clue your favorite game? A fun-filled evening of adventure awaits at Terrapin Adventures in Savage where you have the chance to solve a murder. There is only one catch—you’ll have to zip, swing and climb to find the answers that will help solve this clue-based mystery! Along the course you will meet some crazy characters as part of the story. Afterward enjoy appetizers and drinks as prizes are awarded to the winners.
Adults and children are welcome to come in costume.
The event begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are $69 per person. Children ages 8 and older are welcome to participate if attending with a parent. However, there is no discount for children, fee is still $69.

Zombie Chase DC

For over-21 thrill seekers, ZombieChase DC is a live adventure game that pits “survivors” and “zombies” against each other in a battle of wits and stamina. Survivors try to reach checkpoints strategically located around Washington, D.C. without getting caught by zombies. Survivors who get caught become zombies themselves, joining the hunt for the remaining survivors.
The event runs from 3 to 7 p.m. Participants must be 21 or older and will be required to sign a liability waiver. Cost is $10 per person and you must pre-register online to participate. The first 100 people to buy tickets will get an extra life in the game.
