Holiday Fun Day 16—See the Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade

Take part in an Annapolis tradition on Saturday Dec. 9 and head to the Annapolis Harbor to see the 2017 Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade.

Boats decorated with thousands of colored lights will be out on the water in the Annapolis Harbor and Spa Creek above the Spa Creek Bridge. The annual holiday event runs 6-8 p.m. and is free. Just grab your family and secure a good spot along the parade route.

Spots to watch the parade

  • Eastport Bridge: This is a good place to watch the parade since you can see the fleets on both sides of the bridge and get a close-up look as they pass through the bridge. Note: The bridge will be closed to vehicles but open before the parade, at 6:45 and again at 7:45 p.m.
  • Naval Academy: Enjoy a long, unobstructed view along the seawall bordering Spa Creek. Check the visitation guidelines for the U.S. Navy Academy so you know where to enter and who needs a photo ID.
  • City Dock: Watch the boats parade iup and down Ego Alley or see them collectively. This provides a close-up view.

  • Harbor Queen: Watermark's Harbor Queen, moored at the end of City Dock, provides a view and supports a cause during its "Queen of All Food Drives" before and during the parade. Take a donation of non-perishable food, pet food items, or cash and you'll be welcomed aboard 5:30-8:30 p.m. The boat will be decorated with onboard entertainment and snacks and beverages for purchase.
  • Other Spots: The park next to Annapolis City Marina in Eastport and any of the streets that dead-end at the harbor or Spa Creek are good spots to view the parade. Ask friends with offices, homes, or boats along the harbor if you can share their vantage point.

Wherever you choose to watch the boat parade, be sure to get there before 6 p.m. Remember, there are two groups of boats that change position after

about an hour. So don't leave after the first fleet departs. More will be on the way!

WNAV Radio 1430 will provide live parade coverage from 6 to 8 p.m. and will announce the winners at 10 p.m. Winning boats are also  announced over marine radio Channel 72.

If you are out of town and don't want to miss the Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade you can watch it via your iPhone, iPad, Android phone, PC and TV connected to the internet. This year's parade will be live on the internet via LiveStream.com. Check the Eastport Lights Parade website.

Parking is available at the garage at Park Place, 100 Westgate Circle, with a free City Shuttle circulating every 10 minutes from Park Place to downtown and back until 2:30 a.m.
