Holiday Fun, Day 25—Visit a holiday train display at the Aviation Museum

Check out planes and trains at the College Park Aviation Museum as the National Capital Trackers display some of the members' fast-moving model trains, villages and depots at the museum during the holidays.

Each year the Holiday Trains and Planes display is different, frequently including an aviation component. “There's always something new,” says Chelsea Dorman, museum programs coordinator. “It's a surprise each year.”

The 30-foot by 34-foot display is at table or desk height within a glass enclosure, with stools set up to help little ones see, Dorman says.

Since the train display is free with regular admission, a visit during the holidays also includes the museum and hands-on room, where kids can dress up like a pilot.

Dorman also recommends families stop by the front desk for a scavenger hunt, which changes every few months. “Even if a family has been here before, it will likely be different,” she says.

After enjoying the train display, visitors can explore the current exhibits. Holiday Trains and Planes is open at College Park Aviation Museum, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Dec. 15–22. Museum admission is $5 adults and $2 children. The museum is located at 1985 Corporal Frank Scott Dr., College Park, between Route 1 and Kenilworth Avenue.
