Track down a holiday train garden for the family

Train gardens are a thrill for children and adults and there are plenty to visit in the Baltimore/Washington, D.C., area this time a year. But what most people don't know is how much time goes into planning and building a garden.

Long before children even begin thinking about their Christmas wish lists, work has already started on the holiday train garden at Marley Station Mall in Glen Burnie.

“We start in March,” said Frank McDonald, who has worked on the holiday train garden at Marley Station Mall for more than 20 years. It usually takes until October to finish.

Some people build them in their homes, but many are on display in shopping centers, museums and fire departments for the public to admire.
