Ways to celebrate Earth Day

In this roundup of Maryland Earth Day celebrations, you'll find plenty of ways to show your love for Mother Earth, from stream cleanups to eco-friendly festivals. This year Earth Day is April 22, but events happen all month long.

Annual Stream Cleanup - 2018
April 7. All streams in Bowie flow into the Patuxent River and then into the Chesapeake Bay. To help keep litter from entering the Bay, volunteers walk various stream corridors across Bowie picking up trash and recycling. Free. 9am-2pm. Various streams, Bowie. cityofbowie.org

Potomac River Watershed Cleanup - 2018

Bowie Green Expo - 2018

Greenscape - 2018

GreenFest - 2018
April 21. Activities, exhibits, demonstrations, workshops and more. Free. 10am-4pm. Howard Community College, Columbia. hcgreenfest.org

Run for Nature Earth Day 5K - 2018
April 21. 5K course through wooded parkland. Walkers and children welcome. Pets and strollers permitted. Event benefits the Friends of Quiet Waters Park Nature Center campaign. Registration required. $20-25. Race starts at 9am. Quiet Waters Park, Annapolis. fqwp.org

Anacostia River Clean-Up and Celebration - 2018
April 21. Join volunteers to clean along Anacostia River Watershed, then attend celebration at Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium. Free. Clean up from 9am-noon, celebration from noon-2pm. Various venues. anacostiaws.org


Severna Park Earth Day Festival - 2018
April 21. Festival that aims to educate and engage the community in a fun and meaningful way. Interactive activities for children, as well as materials and information for home owners striving to increase their understanding and make improvements in their homes that are eco-friendly. Earth Optimism Day - 2018

Earth Day Flower Power -2018
April 21. Celebrate Earth Day with all of the flowers of Ladew. Surround yourself with 1,000’s of tulips, as well as blooms from shrubs and trees in the gardens. Quiet Waters Earth Day Expo - 2018

April 22. Spend an afternoon exploring the historic gardens and enjoy a picnic on our grounds. Earth Day by the Bay - 2018
April 28. Create upcycled crafts, race your friends in our recycling relay challenge, take a kayak trip around the secluded cove, and wade in the water to discover the animals that call the Chesapeake Bay home.
