Maryland Turkey Trots and Holiday Fun Runs

Even with chilly weather approaching, there's no need to stay cooped up inside. Sign up for a turkey trot or holiday fun run (or walk) in Maryland.

Bond with your kids, other family and friends while burning off a few calories from Halloween candy and holiday family dinners.

The following is a compilation of some of the many 5K races, fun runs and 1-mile walks happening during the 2018 fall and early winter holiday season.

Oct. 27, 2018, 8 a.m.
5k run and 1-mile walk, Baltimore
What's better than a race through the Inner Harbor that begins and ends at Oriole Park with the Oriole Bird? Participants are encouraged to dress up in Halloween costumes or as their favorite Oriole player. Prizes will be awarded for best costumes as well as top runners.
Cost: $40-$45 for 5k run, $40-$45 for 1 mile walk. Benefits KidsPeace Foster Care and Community Programs.

Ripley Race
Nov. 11, 2018; 8 a.m.
5K run and 1-mile fun run, Annapolis
Run past the governor's mansion, the Naval Academy, city dock and the Maryland State House while racing through Annapolis. The race starts and ends at the Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium with post-event party at Fado Irish Pub.
Cost: $30-$45 for 5k, $15-$20 for 1 mile fun run; discounts for military. Benefits veterans returning from war.

Stride for SPAN Turkey Trot 5k Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk
Nov. 11, 2018; 9 a.m., Millersville
Runners complete a hilly loop around Kinder Farm Park.
Cost: $20-$40 for 5k and 1-mile fun walk. Benefits Serving People Across Neighborhoods (SPAN).

Lights on the Bay 5k and Fun Run
Nov. 16, 2018; 6:15 p.m., Annapolis
Run a 5k through Anne Arundel Medical Center's holiday show, Lights on the Bay at Sandy Point State Park. Parking for 200 cars, number of participants unlimited. No strollers allowed.
Cost: $55 per car. Benefits AAMC.

Fort Meade Turkey Trot 5k and 1 Mile Walk
Nov. 17, 2018; 8 a.m., Fort Meade
Open to the public but check website for instructions on what's needed to be able to enter the base. Event starts at Murphy Field House. No pets.
Cost: Advance registration is $18 for an individual (5k/1 mile), $54 for a family of 3-6 people (5k), $96 for group of 7-10.

Festival of Lights Trot for a Turkey
Nov. 17, 2018; 6 p.m., Watkins Park, Upper Marlboro
Walk or run through the Winter Festival of Lights. Registration includes a long-sleeve T-shirt and provides a family in need with a holiday turkey. Registration required. $30. mncppc.org

Cold Turkey 10K

Nov. 18, 2018; 8 a.m.
A 10K race with all runners and levels welcome. Age group awards and frozen turkeys presented to some of the fastest runners. $35.

Columbia Turkey Chase 10K and Relay

10K run, 2-person relay and fun run
Nov. 18, 2018; 8 a.m., Columbia
Kid's fun run is .4 miles for ages 4-10.
Cost: Individual is $45 through Oct 31, $55 Nov. 1-15, $65 race day; 2-person relay team is $65 through Oct. 31, $75 Nov 1-15, $85 race day; kids fun run is $5 through race day.
