Germantown Elementary to SPARK kids into healthier habits

Spark physical education programGermantown Elementary in Annapolis has implemented a new physical education program in an effort to instill healthy habits in its students.

The new program has been developed by SPARK™ which provides training, curriculum and equipment to schools and other educational institutions. Germantown’s program was funded through the Center for Disease Control’s ACHIEVE grant, the Germantown Elementary Parents and Teachers Association and the Ravens Foundation’s Plan in Motion grant.

The SPARK Physical Education programs strive to introduce the importance of physical activity at a young age. By using inclusive and engaging activities during both PE and general instruction, the SPARK curriculum encourages students to not only participate in activities, but to understand the benefits of adding physical activity to their daily routine. Germantown Elementary is using the SPARK Early Childhood, Kindergarten-2nd grade, 3rd-6th grade and After School curriculum programs.
