Go Tubing Down a River – Summer Fun

100 Days of Summer - Day 19

Maryland has some excellent spots to enjoy the water as you relax in a tube and float away on a real-world lazy river.

Tubing is a great way to stay cool in the summer, and there are several places to do it safely in the area on Maryland’s calm, flat and usually shallow rivers.

Rent a tube, strap on your life jacket, and grab a trail map at Monkton Bike Shop near the Gunpowder River, where you can choose from either a 90-minute or 2.5-hour route.

If you already own tubes, float down the Patapsco River, which has multiple areas within Patapsco Valley State Park to start and stop your trip. You can also rent tubes in advance from nearby Terrapin Adventures.

Located one hour from Washington D.C., Antietam Creek in Sharpsburg has Class I rapids and deeper water that may be more exciting for older children. Join guides from River and Trail Outfitters for a 4-hour trip past historic landmarks with a picnic lunch.

For more about these tubing adventures, check out our tubing down an MD river article from our Spend the Day on the Water series.
