Good times – Lisa on Point

ThinkstockPhotos 623608524While I find the holiday gift giving to be a bit tedious there are many things I look forward to—the company, time off from work, the treats and day trips. My daughters are home for the holidays and I so look forward to spending time with them. I will try to have one on one time with each.

Unlike the Thanksgiving meal, I actually enjoy the Christmas meal. Mostly because it does not involve turkey. This is the time of year for prime rib. I will make apple pies which my family fights over. My daughters eat pie for breakfast. My oldest brother David always tries to make off with one of the them. So, I make him his own pie. Throughout the week there will be cookies and cakes, steamed shrimp, crab cakes, going out for Thai and Mexican food. Please no fruitcake. Last year my husband bought a fruitcake. It stayed in my refrigerator until the summer. He never ate it. No one ate it. He bought it just because he thought he should.

Grace will go with me for a day trip or overnight trip to New York. We will look for after Christmas deals, eat great food there and go to a museum or two. Paige has already said she is not interested. I hope to make a trip to museums in Washington and see the sites at National Harbor. Of course it’s nice to have a lazy day or two at home watching movies.

Grace’s friends will fill the house and we will sit around and catch up on how they are doing in college. My daughters will hang out at home and with me during the day and then announce suddenly they are going out to dinner with friends. And the house is empty again.

I am hoping there’s no drama between the two of them but as many of you parents know, no matter how old they are siblings find something to argue about. I am keeping my fingers crossed that doesn’t happen.

Paige will tell me things I should be doing with my life, my money and my writing.

We will go for manicures and pedicures and maybe to a movie. Get our hair done. And we will laugh, a lot I hope.

My kids are grown now so the holidays take on a different tone. Still one that is happy, fun, relaxing and enjoyable in every way. I hope your holiday is a great one!
