The Government Employees’ Benefit Association (GEBA) has announced that the GEBA Scholarship Foundation will award up to $125,000 this year as part of its commitment to supporting the education of its members and their families.
With Maryland having one of the highest concentrations of federal workers in the country, the GEBA Scholarship Program is especially helpful, as theprogram is “for GEBA members with plans active for three years or more. Members can sponsor themselves, spouses, children, and grandchildren. Candidates must be full-time students as defined by the school, and funds can be used for tuition, fees, or college-sponsored room and board costs.”
Specific award amounts and application guidelines for the group’s two educational awards programs, GEBA Scholarships and the Member Educational Award Program (MEAP), can be found here. Applications for both programs are due by March 31, 2020.
The GEBA Scholarship Foundation will award up to 40 scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year, each worth $2,500. Scholarships will be awarded in three categories: Academic, Community Service, and Career Training.
The Member Educational Award Program “provides educational assistance to members working full-time to help pay for part-time studies or student loans.” For the 2020-2021 academic year, the GEBA Scholarship Foundation will award up to 10 MEAP awards, each valued at $2,500. Applicants must be GEBA members as of January 15, 2020.
Michele Rackey, GEBA’s Executive Director says, “It’s truly rewarding to honor our members and their families for the outstanding work they do in their communities and within the classroom.”
