Gratitude in the Mundane—One Moore Thing

This was a harder year for a lot of people I know.
This year had harder moments for me.

But the other day my 10-year-old shaved her legs for the first time and was so freaking excited about it that it honestly opened my eyes completely.
I’ve never seen someone so happy about something so many of us complain about and view as a chore in our everyday lives. Please give this girl a Gillette commercial because no one could sell the power of a clean shave and the confidence that has carried her through the week better. She has inspired me not just to shave more and change my whole outlook about it but to shift my perspective about the mundane.

How lucky and fortunate we all are is truly astounding. Yes, there are days that absolutely, completely suck and they drain us beyond measure. But at least we live in a land where we can stop and get ice cream on the way home. We have running water. We have heat. We have food. We have the world at our fingertips. We have razors. We are doing okay.

Sometimes we just have to take a step back and realize and see the gratitude for where it is: it is everywhere. We just have to remember to look for it.

And I know the feeling of wanting more. Lord knows my teenager wants it all. But when we really see with eyes wide open, we might not have everything, but we have enough and that is more than what so many in the world do not have. It starts with perspective and it starts with the mind. So, if you have had some hard moments too, here’s to all the showing up that you do every single day. You are enough. One million times enough. Keep choosing to see all that you already have and all that you are. There is light and joy everywhere we choose to look and this holiday season, let’s start there.

Happy happy Thanksgiving.
I’m so grateful for you.
