A beloved Annapolis tradition is returning for Halloween! From Friday, Oct. 24 to Sunday, Nov. 2, eight giant pumpkins carved by professional artists will be on display throughout Annapolis’s downtown area, an event known locally as the Great Annapolis Pumpkins.

The pumpkins, which each weigh over 1,000 pounds, were carved on location on Oct. 24 and add some spooky spirit to Downtown Annapolis. Locals and sightseers alike are encouraged to take pictures with these pumpkins and marvel at the intricate carvings.

Participating local artists include Food Channel-featured carver Nancy Baker, muralist Charles Lawrance, ice sculptors Chris Wyer, Kevin Tovar and Juan Martinez, Love Struck Tattoo artists Ari Star and Lauren Lietch and Annapolis Pearl Gallery artists Susan Gillig-Grube, Wayne Laws and Audrey Lee. The pumpkin in front of the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel was decorated by the hotel’s staff.

The Annapolis Visitors Center will be offering free walking maps to guide visitors to the pumpkins’ locations. They can be found at the Visitors Center, St. Anne’s Church, St. John’s College, Maryland Avenue, Market Space, the Museum of Historic Annapolis, Main Street and the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel.

Anyone who photographs the Main Street pumpkin and posts it on social media with the tag #HistoricAnnapolis will receive free admission to the Museum of Historic Annapolis during November. Visitors are advised to not climb on the pumpkins or try to carve into them themselves.
