As you drag your teen out of bed before dawn this month, you might consider getting involved in the Start School Later movement.
Startschoollater.net, a national organization with an Anne Arundel County chapter, was founded last year by a group of local moms concerned about the wellbeing and safety of high school students.
“For children to get the amount of sleep they need in Anne Arundel County, they would have to be in bed by 8 or 8:30,” explains Maribel Ibrahim, co-founder of startschoollater.net and a Severna Park mom. “It’s not realistic biologically and it’s not realistic with the demands they have. That is a sad thing and that is why we started this organization.”
