Hands-on fun at Maryland STEM Festival

Get a big dose of hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math at over 450 events across the state during the Maryland STEM Festival Nov. 4-13.

CC Md STEM Fest swimming spaghetti in actionCheck out robotics, cybersecurity, magic and more at the festival with a mission to inspire and encourage students and families to take a greater interest in STEM. Events are being held at 230 venues and most are free and open to the public.

The opening event will be held Friday, Nov. 4, at both the Maryland Science Center and the National Aquarium with hands-on STEM exhibits and activities. The Science Center event runs 10 a.m to noon and will include speakers such as Paul Fipp, chief technology officer from Under Armour. The event at the Aquarium will run 1-4 p.m.

Maryland’s public libraries are hosting nearly half of the festival events which will run the gamut from Creative Cosmetics to a Night of Cybersecurity to a Robotics Roundup. There will be star parties, career fairs, coding classes, story times, 3D printing workshops, magic shows and more.

Some other events include a studio tour of Maryland Public Television on Nov. 4 in Owings Mills, Walk Across Maryland (On a Gian Map) on Nov. 12 in Bowie, Lego Builders! On Nov. 7 in Laurel, Construction Zone on Nov. 12 in Prince Frederick, Learn to Solder! on Nov. 8 in Severn and much more.

Prominent organizations hosting events include NASA, The Maryland Zoo, Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and dozens of universities and private schools.
