Fitness for families

The "Pip" Moyer Recreation Center at Truxtun Park
Starting at age 14, kids can go to the fitness center with their parents as long as they have gone through an orientation. Youth 16 and older can take fitness classes with Mom or Dad. There is also an indoor track for family runs, three courts for basketball and a rock-climbing wall. A Kidz Zone is available for ages 4 months to 12 years, and the Ballocity indoor playground gets kids moving. There is also a host of classes just for kids.

Sport Fit Bowie
Kids can start taking classes with their parents on a regular basis when they are 13. In the meantime, Sport Fit offers a full schedule of fitness classes designed especially for children ages 18 months to 12 years at the same time as the Adult Fitness classes. Family Spin is offered for parents and their kids to work out together in the Cycle Studio, and there are daily family swim times in the therapy pool. Child care is offered for infants to age 12 in the mornings and evenings so parents can drop kids off and work out.

Family Center Y's
Arnold, Ellicott City, Pasadena
Children younger than 16 can use the weight room and cardio if they have taken the teen strength training class. This allows parents and children the opportunity to work out together. Both Arnold and Ellicott City Y's have a climbing wall that families can enjoy together. Depending on the class, youth can start attending with their parents at age 15. All Family Center Y's have Stay and Play for parents to leave their children, ages 6 months through 11 years, while they work out. There are also a host of classes for kids.

Easton Family YMCA
Kids ages 11 to 15 can complete a Teen Fitness Clearance Pass course to use the circuit weight and cardio equipment in the gym. There is a Kids Bootcamp class that runs at the same time as the adult Bootcamp on Saturday mornings and allows kids to get in shape with their peers while Mom and Dad get a workout. Teens can start taking most strength and cardio classes with their parents at age 16, but they can take Zumba starting at age 12. The Y also has a childwatch for ages 6 weeks to 10 years. Children may stay for 2 hours a day, free of charge.
