Many Americans have found themselves facing unfamiliar and difficult challenges this year. There are 49 million living in food insecure households, nearly half of whom are children.
This holiday season is an especially tough time as many struggle to provide the simplest necessities. Feeding America, the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization, has launched their Give-A-Meal holiday campaign to help these families with something each of us may take for granted this time of year, a meal.
For every $1 donated, Feeding America provides 8 meals to someone struggling with hunger. If users go to the Bank of America page to make a donation to Give-A-Meal, they will triple the benefit ($1=$3) up to $500,000.
Give-A-Meal is an online giving campaign based on the seasonal spirit of generosity sourced through public participation. The gift giving campaign combines elements of digital media and the support of celebrity spokespeople including One Republic, Curtis Stone, Benji and Joel Madden, Samantha Harris, Katie Lee , and Ben Affleck, who all have a commitment to end hunger. Emmy Award winning talk show host Rachael Ray will serve as the first celebrity ambassador for the campaign. Her Yum-o! organization has committed a matching grant to Feeding America’s Produce Program in conjunction with the campaign.
A running counter will be displayed on the Give a Meal webpage <http://www.feedingamerica.org/giveameal> to tally the number of meals that have been donated during the campaign.
