It’s time for back to school shopping and while you’re at it, consider filling one more backpack for a family in need.
The Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services in partnership with Anne Arundel County Public Schools is looking for donors (individuals, groups, organizations and businesses) to be matched with children in need of school supplies.
The Back to School Program runs from May through August and benefits children from low-income families who are attending schools throughout the county. The purpose of the program is to help children feel good about school and confident that they have the needed tools to learn.
Last year, 521 donors gave more than $27,000 and helped 4,514 students in need in the program, according to Tanya Steele, special program coordinator for the county department of social services.
Matched donors receive the child’s name, grade, school and list of school supplies. The average cost for one child is $50-$75 depending upon the grade.
For more information on becoming a donor or to sign up visit dhr.state.md.us/county/ann/backtoschool.php or contact Steele at 410 269-4461 or email email@example.com.
