Hispanic Heritage Month is here! In addition to acquainting little ones with the diverse contributions of the Hispanic community, this month—officially recognized between Sept. 15 and Oct. 15—is also a great opportunity to enjoy several informative and family-friendly activities such as dance, story time and arts and crafts. Here are five events organized in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month by branches of Anne Arundel County Public Library:

Music Bingo: Hispanic Culture

Sept. 25, 6-7 p.m.

Anne Arundel County Public Library – Deale (Meeting Room) | 5940 Deale Churchton Road, Deale, MD 20751

Almost all of us have enjoyed a game of bingo at some point! However, this event steers visitors in a different direction and invites them to try their hand at a game of Music Bingo based in Hispanic culture! Though this event is open to all ages, it’s important to note that some songs are meant for a teen or adult audience.

Make Matchbox Shrines

 Oct. 5, 2-3:30 p.m.

Maryland City Library – Maryland City at Russett – Community Meeting Room | 3501 Russett Common, Laurel, MD 20724

Large and intricately constructed, ofrendas—or shrines as they are commonly known—are an important part of Hispanic culture. Inviting children to construct their very own ofrendas using matchboxes as the base, this unique all-supplies-provided event also encourages them to bring other decorative materials that they might like to use, along with truckloads of creativity!

Music and Movement with Ms. Caroline

 Oct. 7, 6:30-7 p.m.

Anne Arundel County Public Library – Linthicum (Community Meeting Room) | 400 Shipley Road, Linthicum, MD 21090

Music speaks to all, and when it comes to explaining the nuances of Hispanic culture to your 3-year-old, it can be a helpful tool. Join Ms. Caroline for 30 fun minutes of music and movement and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with your preschooler in an easy-to-understand way!
