How to Take Great Family Photos

Be Prepared

Anticipate your children’s needs. A photo shoot is in many ways no different than any other outing, so pack what you usually do to keep them comfortable. Bring along change of clothes, a non-staining snack and drink (water and fruit snacks are a safe bet), and a stuffed animal, blanket or other lovey. Also, schedule your shoot for a time of day when the kids are well-rested and fed so you’re taking tired and hungry out of the equation. And make sure everyone has “done their business” before the camera comes out.

If you’re a shutterbug and love taking your own family pictures, there are a few additional tips you’ll want to consider to keep your photo session fresh and fun.
