Quick and easy and leading to the web address you assign, QR Codes, short for Quick Response, are popping up all over the place. On windows, in magazines and on billboards, the rectangular-shaped black and white patterns can be scanned by a smart phone in a matter of seconds and send the user directly to a web page allowing the QR code owner (your business) to change the web page message quickly and at any time.
What it is?
A QR Code is a matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code), readable by QR scanners, mobiles phones with camera, and smartphones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on white background. The information encoded can be text, URL or other data.
What does it do?
QR Codes storing addresses and URLs may appear in magazines, on signs, buses, business cards, or on just about any object that users might need information about. Users with a camera phone equipped with the correct reader application can scan the image of the QR Code to display text, contact information, connect to a wireless network, or open a web page in the phone’s browser.
What does it mean for a business?
You can have a QR code in your Chesapeake Family ad that when scanned will link to whatever URL you designate. The QR code can be scanned by any smart phone and you designate what you want it to link to. Do you want it to go to your website home page? To a special offer? To a google map, or an information page? You decide what the QR code links to and you can change what appears on the page whenever you want.
Here’s how it works:
In order to read a Quick Response Code, a consumer’s phone must have:
* Mobile Browser Capabilities
* 2-D Bar Code Reader App Installed.
Both the iphone and Android phones have an application called “Barcode Scanner” that is free and easy to download. Blackberry uses Scan Life. The rest is easy:
1. Download the application
2. Scan the QR Code and you will be taken directly to the URL associated with that code.
Chesapeake Family can generate a QR code for you and place it in your ad for a minimal set up fee. Just let us know when you’re ready.
