Founded in 1964 as a planned community by the Crawford Corporation, Crofton takes its name from a small town in England. The first European immigrants settled in the area in the 1660s. Originally a vast forest area, much of the land was cleared to make farms by those early settlers.

Parks, Ponds and Playgrounds

The Barbara & Thomas Swann Park features two large playgrounds (including one for younger children) plenty of shade, a picnic area and a nearby fenced-in pond. Check out Crofton Park, next to Crofton High School, for a day of grilling and picnicking at the pavilions, skipping rocks in the pond, hiking and biking on the trails and climbing and playing on the playground structures.

Indoor fun for Rainy Days

The Crofton area also has great activities for rainy days to get you out while staying dry. Hyper Kidz Crofton, just a few minutes away in Odenton, features an LED dance floor, soft play structures, special events and more. Skate the day away at SkateZone just down the road. More than just a traditional skating rink, SkateZone has STEM programs, free kids’ skate events and a café.
