In Your Neighborhood: Easton

Easton is the county seat of Talbot County and one of its most populous towns — even having its own airport. Being located on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, it’s a popular spot for waterfront activities like boating and fishing, and it’s host of the Talbot County Fair (returning July 9-11). It’s also a hub of the arts, hosting many arts festivals throughout the year, such as the Waterfowl Festival.

Easton has much to entertain families, including activities at the Talbot County Free Library, “Little One and Me” ice skating for ages 10 and younger at the Talbot County Ice Skating Rink and two havens for pretend play: Idlewild Park, which has an extensive community-built playground set up as a cityscape, along with its 15-acre park and athletic fields, and The Be With Me Playseum, with 24 indoor thematic play areas, live animals, story times and interactive art, science and baking with kids.

Easton and the surrounding area offer plenty of ways to experience the Eastern Shore’s natural wildlife. Pickering Creek Audubon Center, about 10 minutes north of Easton, has more than 450 acres of the different ecosystems that make up the Chesapeake Bay area, from waterfront marshes to hardwood forests.
