Huntingtown was named for its original location along Hunting Creek, and during the 18th century, it was a prosperous hub of industry for the tobacco trade. It was so successful that there were attempts to make it the county seat of Calvert County instead of Prince Frederick. But much of the town’s original infrastructure was destroyed in an 1812 fire set by British troops.
Today, much of Huntingtown’s activity is concentrated along Old Town Road and Hunting Creek Road, and it’s a short distance away from bustling Calvert County towns like Solomons and Prince Frederick.
Beach Bums
Many Calvert County beaches are a short drive away from Huntingtown, with one of the closest being Breezy Point Beach & Campground. It’s a popular spot for local families and tourists from Washington, D.C. during the summer because of its large swimming areas and fishing pier for fishing and crabbing. Notably, it’s also a hotbed for fossils — beachgoers will often find small fossils and shark teeth along the shoreline.

Get the Ball Rolling
Huntingtown’s local bowling alley, the Lord Calvert Bowling Center is a popular venue for parties and is frequented by casual and competitive bowlers alike. The 22-lane bowling alley has an arcade, in-house restaurant and many youth leagues. Huntingtown also has two dance studios, nine athletic fields and courts at Calverton High School for rent, and just under 10 minutes outside of town are Kings Landing pool and park and the Marley Run Recreation Area.
