One of the best ways you can observe the holiday season’s spirit of generosity is by giving to a good cause. These charities and nonprofits support members of our community with disabilities, mental illness or medical conditions that affect their way of life. Your donation could support research, advocacy or resources to get them better care or more opportunities in 2026.

Maryland Polar Bear Plunge

This Maryland tradition celebrates its 30th year in 2026, and it has raised tens of millions of dollars for Special Olympics Maryland in those three decades. Funds raised by daring participants willing to jump into the Chesapeake Bay at Sandy Point State Park in January go to support programming for youth and adults with disabilities. And you don’t even have to plunge — you can support the cause by donating!
