Summer break is almost here, and there are lots of options for family plans this June. Here are a few things to keep on the radar this month, including kindergarten registration and a fun race for kids alongside an iconic motorsports festival.
Communal Conservation
Anne Arundel County now has 47 acres of land in the Saltworks Creek Watershed, once meant to be the site of a townhouse development, that will be preserved as a protected forest.
Festival Fun
June is a big month for festivals by the Bay, kicking off with the Let’s Go! Music Festival in Crownsville June 5, followed by Paint Annapolis, the Annapolis Juneteenth Parade & Festival and more!
Pinewood Derby Grand Prix
Bring your own racecar or decorate one provided by the Chesapeake Bay Motoring Festival (June 6-7) to participate in this youth race at the Kent Island Yacht Club. The club’s kids committee has family-oriented activities each day; ages 15 and younger enter free
RAMMY Finalists
Finalists for the RAMMY Culinary Awards include Call Your Mother (which has an Annapolis location) and Anthony Jones, whose hometown is in Sunderland (Calvert County). Winners will be announced June 29.
Ready for Kindergarten
Calvert County Public Schools is strongly encouraging parents to register for its early kindergarten program before July 1 to ensure that each school offering the program will be adequately staffed.
