LivePo Ste 4c 004This month Sportacus is visiting several schools in the Annapolis area. If you aren’t familiar with this LazyTown character, just ask your kids.

LazyTown, a television show on the Sprout Network, is collaborating with the Westfield Mall in Annapolis for KidsFest 2012. A handful of schools that have been recognized through the Healthier US Schools Challenge will be visited by the Sprout Network and LazyTown character Sportacus, a super-fit, acrobatic superhero on Sept. 14. Maryland City, Arnold and Jacob elementary schools will be among those included in the visit. The Sprout Network will host assemblies at the schools encouraging students to adopt healthy habits and lifestyles like eating well, exercising and getting enough sleep. Super hero passports will be distributed to help kids track their healthy ways.

“LazyTown wants to impress upon children that healthy is fun and cool and positive. We want them to experience that in the aspirational message of the brand,” says Jay Whitney, representative with LazyTown Entertainment. On the show the characters like “sports candy,” which is technically fruit and vegetables. And some of the puppet characters have characteristics that some kids might need to improve. Stingy doesn’t like to share. Ziggy likes to eat too many sweets. Pixel likes to play too many video games and Trixie likes to break the rules. Sportacus and Stephanie often help characters overcome their challenges. (LazyTown also promotes books, games and apps for mobile devices.)

“We try to communicate through a clever point of difference so kids find it to be entertaining,” says Whitney.

Following the school visits, families are invited to KidsFest 2012 at Westfield Mall Sept. 15 from noon to 6 p.m. LazyTown characters will meet kids and their families and concerts with the LazyTown cast will be held at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. outside Crate & Barrel.

“Westfield supports the message of healthy habits for kids and we are proud to be the venue of choice for KidsFest powered by LazyTown and Sprout,” says Christi Wallace, director of marketing for Westfield Mall.
