Although she’s 92, Betty Huckenpoehler doesn’t frown upon the way young people dance today.
But, she tells them, “That’s not going to last a lifetime.”
Teaching ballroom basics and social graces to local youth has been a lifetime mission for Huckenpoehler, director of the Annapolis Cotillion.
“Mrs. H” — as she is best known — has guided generations of local families and Naval Academy midshipman through the formalities of receiving lines and social dances.
“It’s a rite of passage,” she says. “It’s an introduction to being a grown-up.”
