The beloved classic literary character Paddington Bear will be making a stop in Washington D.C. for a special Holiday Story Time with the Librarian of Congress on Friday, December 8.

The Library of Congress invites families with children of all ages to visit a special holiday edition of the Young Readers Center weekly story time with Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden in the Great Hall of the Thomas Jefferson Building, on Friday, Dec. 8 at 10:30 a.m. Hayden, who began her career as a children’s librarian, will read a selection from the beloved Paddington Bear series. Paddington Bear himself will be making a guest appearance during the reading, poses for pictures afterwards and greeting young readers in the Great Hall.

Tickets are free, but are not required, though it is important to note they are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Visit the event-ticketing site for more information and to secure your tickets as entry is not guaranteed.

Paddington Bear-themed activity stations will be available from 9 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. in the Young Readers Center, Room LJ G29 of the Thomas Jefferson Building.

The Young Readers Center opened its doors to children in October 2009, though they must be accompanied by an adult. It provides a Library of Congress experience uniquely tailored to younger readers. The center is open Monday through Saturday, from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Story time is offered for infants and toddlers every Friday (except holidays) at 10:30 a.m. Parents and guardians are advised to check the Young Readers Center website or call the center at (202)707-1950 for information about story time and other activities.
